About

OHIO’s Center for Campus and Community Engagement is seeking applicants for Community-Based Internships for Summer 2022. This program connects students to nonprofit and public sector organizations to engage in mutually beneficial internships that provide students with high impact experiential learning opportunities and provide community partners with tangible outcomes that directly benefit the southeast Ohio region. Positions are 17.5 hours per week for ten weeks from June 6th-August 12th with $12 per hour compensation. OHIO undergraduate students are eligible.

The purpose of the Southeast Ohio History Center is to collect, preserve and share Southeast Ohio’s unique cultural and natural heritage.

Exhibit Research and Design Internship:

The Southeast Ohio History Center is seeking a creative, passionate exhibit research and design intern to assist with a major exhibition opening in October, 2022. The exhibit, called Southeast Ohio A to Z will feature stories, artifacts, and photographs of our region to coincide with each letter of the alphabet. We see this as an opportunity to engage other history, arts, and culture organizations in southeast Ohio and to reconnect with elementary school teachers, especially 3rd and 4th grade teachers, in the fall of 2022 when schools will (hopefully) be returning to in-person field trips.

The exhibit research and design intern will work closely with the History Center's Curator of Collections, Paige Musselman, and Executive Director, Jessica Cyders, to select, research, and prepare artifacts for the exhibit. In some cases, this may involve visiting other museums and collections. During the course of the internship, we will also be preparing educational materials for teachers to use.

Preferred Qualifications

Flexibility, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor are a must when working on exhibits. Students with a background in history, anthropology, education, and communications are natural fits in a museum setting, but this position does not need to be limited to these majors. We would love to find a student who has a passion for sharing information in creative ways and a desire to explore museum work.
